Central Meetup (centralmeetup.com) is a free digital mall of US online stores. Each business claims a free building to show its name, a short line about what it does, a logo and a link. It is a learning project, not a commercial service; see the Terms. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and a password. The password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our sign-in provider; nobody at Central Meetup can see it. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email and profile picture with our sign-in provider; we only use your email.
- Your building: what you type into the building editor: business name, what you do, tags, link, logo, design, height, the places you serve (country and optional state) and how far you serve, such as online or locally.
- Browser storage: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in; and, while you fill in your building, the text you typed, so it isn't lost. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Traffic counts: Vercel Web Analytics counts page views, which pages are visited, the site you came from, your country and your device type. It uses no cookies and does not identify you.
- Visit counts: each time you tap "Visit website" or a product and it opens a business's website, we add 1 to that business's count. We store only the number, nothing about you, and show it once it reaches 10.
- Server logs: our hosting provider records basic request data (such as IP address and pages requested) to run and protect the site.
What is public
Once you save your building, its name, description, tags, link, logo, works, design and places are shown to everyone on the map. Your email address is never shown publicly. A building we take down, and a new-city request waiting for review, are visible only to you and to us.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your building on the map.
- To approve buildings before they go on the map, and take down those that break the rules.
- To send account emails: confirming your address and resetting your password. We send no newsletters.
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
Who else handles it
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (logos).
- Vercel: hosting the website and counting traffic.
- Resend: sending account emails.
- Google: only if you choose "Continue with Google".
Keeping and deleting your data
You can give your building back at any time on the My building page; that removes its content and logo from the map and from our storage.
Children
Central Meetup is for businesses and adults. It is not meant for children under 16.
